La Salle's Galang, Marano share MVP award
MANILA - La Salle stalwarts Abi Marano and Ara Galang were named Most Valuable Players (MVP) after leading the defending champions Lady Spikers to the best record in the UAAP Season 75 women's volleyball tournament.
Marano, last season's MVP, and Galang, last season's Rookie of the Year, were instrumental in La Salle's run to a fifth straight Finals appearance.
Galang finished eighth in the league in scoring with 12.57 points per game, while Marano was tied for ninth with 10.86 points per game.
Galang was also in the top 10 of most statistical categories, including eighth in attacking (32.92%), sixth in blocking (0.5 blocks per set), ninth in serving (0.38 per set), and 10th in digging (1.98 per set).
Meanwhile, Marano was sixth in the league in attacking (35.85%), and first in blocking (0.92 blocks per set).
Aiko Urdas of National University (NU) was named Rookie of the Year.
Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez won the Best Scorer award after averaging 20.5 points per game, and NU's Myla Pablo won the Best Spiker crown with a 41.29% success rate.
Marano also added the Best Blocker award to her trophy case. Adamson' Shiela Pineda won the Best Server award.
Ateneo's Jem Ferrer won the Best Setter award for the third time in her UAAP career, while NU's Jen Reyes won Best Digger and Best Receiver.
In the men's division, La Salle's Red Christensen and University of Santo Tomas' Mark Gil Alfafara also shared the MVP plum.
Adamson's Nikko Ramirez was named Rookie of the Year
Meanwhile, Ron Jay Galang of Adamson was named Best Scorer, while Peter Den Mar Torres of NU was named Best Attacker.
Alfafara also claimed the Best Blocker award, while Carlo Almario of the University of the East won Best Digger and Vincent Raphael Mangulabnan of NU won Best Setter.
Far Eastern University's Arvin Avila took home the trophies for Best Receiver and Best Server.
The awardees were honored prior to Game 2 of the women's volleyball finals Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
