Ex-Pinoy champ picks Floyd over Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines – Former boxing champion Rolando Bohol believes Floyd Mayweather Jr. would likely give Manny Pacquiao a boxing clinic should they ever meet in a super fight.

The former IBF flyweight champion said there’s a big chance that Mayweather’s evasive style of boxing will frustrate Pacquiao’s heavy volume punching.

“Kung sakaling magtapat sila, I will give you my honest opinion, I think Mayweather will give him a boxing lesson,” he said in an interview with Spin.ph’s Snow Badua.

Bohol stressed that he remains to be a fan of the eight-division former world champion, but he maintained that some boxing styles are meant to foil other types of fighting.

“Syempre, maka-Pacquiao tayo. Pero sa ngayon and even before na nasa prime pa siya, I think Mayweather will beat him by decision. Kasi ang style ni Mayweather, iba eh. At saka si Mayweather nakakatanggap ng suntok eh,” he said.

Bohol was one of the country’s best boxers back in the late 1980s. He became the IBF flyweight champion by beating Dodie “Boy” Penalosa’s tormentor Chang Ho Choi in 1988.

He retired in 1994 with a record of 34 wins and 15 defeats. He is now based in Las Vegas and is currently serving as the CEO of 24hourshopnet.com.

Bohol said Pacquiao’s quick side-to-side movements are more appropriate against brawlers like Brandon Rios.

But he noted that the Filipino superstar struggles when forced to fight it out against the likes of Juan Manuel Marquez and even Timothy Bradley.

“Kung nakaka-kalaban siya ng katulad nila Marquez at ni Bradley, nag-iiba 'yung style niya (Pacquiao),” said Bohol.

The retired boxer also believes that Pacquiao won’t get the knockout win he’s after against Bradley. Worse, he said the Filipino could even lose by points.

“I got a feeling that uumm, Bradley will win again. That’s how I feel. Pero walang knockout. Decision, it’s going to be the same story,” Bohol said.
