MANILA, Philippines – Newly crowned bantamweight king Nonito Donaire said he is ready to take on other bantamweight champions in an effort to unify the crowns.
Among his possible opponents are World Boxing Association (WBA) super world bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno of Panama and WBA “regular” bantamweight champion Koki Kameda of Japan.
He is also eyeing a possible fight against the winner between International Boxing Federation (IBF) titlist Joseph Agbeko of Ghana and Abner Mares of Mexico.
"One possibility si Moreno,” said Donaire shortly after his arrival in Manila on Tuesday. “[Koki] Kameda is a WBA champion din, but si Moreno 'yong Super Champion.”
Donaire, nicknamed “The Filipino Flash”, is reportedly slated to fight again on May 28 in an HBO main event.
He won the WBC and WBO titles by halting Mexican champion Fernando Montiel last month.
Donaire said he wants to win another world title to become Asia’s first undisputed world champion.
"Gusto ko ‘yung maging undisputed champion. Gusto ko ma-accomplish yan. Not a lot of people have accomplished that feat. That's a dream I want to accomplish," he said earlier.
Donaire visited the Philippines to arrange plans for his church wedding with his wife, Rachel Donaire.
The couple already scheduled their wedding date on November 11.
"We will sit down with our wedding planner and make sure whatever else has been set,” said Rachel.
“Kasi every single time he fights like two, 3 months go by really fast and we don't even know that it went by and the wedding is creeping up really fast and I don't think we have everything set up yet," she added. -- With a report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
