MANILA, Philippines – World bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr. is now focused on his next title fight after settling a family feud.
The new Filipino boxing star recently reconciled with his father and former trainer, Nonito Donaire Sr., and the rest of the Donaires.
“Ang importante lang sa amin ngayon ay yung nagkabalikan yung family,” Nonito Jr. said in an exclusive interview with TV Patrol.
The feud ended after a heart-to-heart talk between father and son last week.
“For now, ang saya-saya namin... nagmamahalan kami ng husto,” he said.
Nonito Jr. said he assured his brother, boxer Glenn Donaire, a slot in his fight card on May 28.
Glenn trains under Nonito Sr.
“Masayang masaya din ako na nandoon ang father ko at kapatid ko,” he said.
Donaire vs Chemito?
Meanwhile, Nonito Jr. said he is still waiting for his next fight to be finalized.
He will most likely fight World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight super champion Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno of Panama.
“Hindi pa ko nagsa-sign ng kontrata,” he said. “Pero iyon ang pangalan na ibinibigay nila sa akin.”
Nonito Jr. currently owns the World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight titles after his 2nd-round demolition of Mexican champion Fernando Montiel.
If the Moreno fight doesn’t push through, Nonito Jr. may opt to face Japanese Koki Kameda, WBA’s “regular” champion.

After he was welcomed by Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim at the airport, he went straight to ABS-CBN’s morning show, Umagang kay Ganda for a live TV guesting.
This was followed by an interview over a dzMM radio show with hosts Noli de Castro, Ted Failon and Pinky Webb.
He also appeared at the set of noontime show, Happy Yipee Yehey, where he even serenaded his wife to the delight of spectators.
Also appearing in the show was boxer Mark Jason Melligen, who fought in Donaire’s undercard last month. – With a report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
