Mayweather Jr. gets back in training - report
It looks like a Pacquiao-Mayweather Jr. match is in the offing in the near future.
This after it was reported that the retired former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. was spotted sparring in his own gym in Las Vegas.
“Mayweather was seen sparring in his own Las Vegas gym this past Friday March 6 by a source of mine. If a fighter has an injured shoulder he wouldn’t be sparring. If he’s retired, then why put on the gloves?” said David Avila in his report posted on TheSweetScience.com.
Mayweather Jr. retired from the sport shortly after knocking out Britain’s Ricky Hatton in December 2007.
He, however, expressed interest in donning the gloves again in December 2008 after current pound-for-pound ruler Manny Pacquiao beat boxing great Oscar de la Hoya in eight rounds.
Mayweather Jr. himself defeated de la Hoya in May 2007. But unlike Pacquiao, he only managed to eke a split-decision win over the Mexican-American star.
Aside from possible fights with WBA welterweight champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley and WBA, WBO and IBF lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, Mayweather Jr. is reportedly eyeing a match with Pacquiao, who succeeded him in the top pound-for-pound spot.
