Two days after a big Davis Cup win against Hong Kong, Filipino-Americans Cecil Mamiit and Treat Huey were back in the practice courts at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, getting ready for another pro tournament in Thailand.

Mamiit and Huey were key to the country’s win over Hong Kong last weekend where Mamiit won his two singles matches and Huey teamed up with Mamiit to win the doubles, giving the Pinoys a 3-2 win against Hong Kong.

“I have a lot of efforts. It’s different. So I’m just really happy,” Mamiit told ABS-CBN News.

Mamiit’s second singles match against Martin Sayer of Hong Kong was a four-hour five-setter.

Filipinos in Hong Kong came out in full force to the Victoria tennis courts, giving Mamiit the much needed boost.

The 23-year-old Huey from Washington, D.C. is a newcomer to the team.

Treat, whose father is American and whose mother is a Filipino, is thrilled to suit up for the Philippines.

“It was great. I had an incredible experience and it was so much fun playing for the Philippines. I really enjoyed it,” said Huey.

Both Mamiit and Huey play in the professional tour. Mamiit has a singles world ranking of 425. Huey is also ranked in the 400 range in the doubles category at 490.

But they are more than happy to play for flag and country when they are called.

Mamiit and Huey will play in a challenger event in Thailand next week, then will go back to the US for more tournaments.

But they will be back to play for the Philippine Davis Cup team against Pakistan in July.

The Philippines is in Group II of the Asia-Oceania Zone, hoping to get back to Group I in the Davis Cup competition.
