MANILA, Philippines – B-Meg Derby Ace coach Tim Cone credited his shooters for getting the Llamados past fan-favorite Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup last Sunday.
Five of Cone’s players scored in double figures to help the Llamados secure a 109-93 win over the Gin Kings.
“We had a good shooting night, making a lot of big shots out there. They (Gin Kings) tried to disrupt us and I thought our guards did a good job battling the pressure,” Cone said in PBA.ph.
Leading the way for B-Meg was import Denzel Bowles, who scored 27.
Mark Barroca and Josh Urbiztondo, who had to step since Roger Yap’s exit, combined for 30 points.
PJ Simon and two-time MVP James Yap also made significant contributions with 18 and 15 points, respectively.
“Obviously, we played our best game in the conference. We clicked on all cylinders and that’s the way to beat Ginebra,” said Cone.
Bowles also outplayed his counterpart from Ginebra, Jackson Vroman.
The young B-Meg import had 27 markers and 15 rebounds against Vroman’s 26 points and 8 boards.
B-Meg now holds the solo second spot in the standings with 4-2. It’s currently a win away from league leader and defending champion Talk N’ Text.
The Gin Kings (3-3) suffered is second straight setback and are now stuck in a tie for fourth place with Petron Blaze.
