MANILA, Philippines – The struggling Philadelphia 76ers came away with a surprising win against the Brooklyn Nets, 106-97.

Center Spencer Hawes had his best game of the season with 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists as the Sixers ended a five-game losing streak.

“It’s been tough. No one likes to lose and I know that I’ve been taking it home. It’s nice to get a big win and see all the happy faces in this locker room,” Hawes told NBA.com.

Five other Sixers scored in double figures, with Thaddeus Young and Evan Turner adding 16 points each and Jrue Holiday and Dorell Wright contributing 15 markers apiece. Damien Wilkins also had 13 points.

Deron Williams had 27 points and 13 assists for the Nets, who saw their three-game winning streak come to a halt.

Despite the victory, the season still looks bleak for the Sixers, who won for just the second time in their last 14 games.

They are currently nine games back of Milwaukee for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. – Report from ANC
