Even in the absence of his coach Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao continued his toil inside the famed Wild Card Gym for his preparation against Ricky Hatton.

Pacquiao’s co-trainer Buboy Fernandez said in a report posted on PhilBoxing.com that the boxer upped his training intensity on Wednesday by hitting the mitts for ten rounds.

“It was supposed to be only four rounds” Fernandez told PhilBoxing.com’s Ed de la Vega. “Then it went six rounds. But Manny wanted more, so we ended up doing 10 rounds.”

Roach is temporarily unavailable as he is busy preparing former champion and Pacquiao sparring mate Amir Khan for his March 14 showdown with Marco Antonio Barrera.

Watching Pacquiao’s progress is former world heavyweight champion Michael Moorer, who is currently working as Roach’s training assistant.

De la Vega said Moorer was “observing and giving pointers as Buboy and Manny went along [the training].

Pacquiao is scheduled to trade leathers with Hatton on May 2 in a fight dubbed as “Battle of East and West”. The superfight will take place at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
