MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxers Richie Mepranum and Dennis Laurente scored victories on the eve of “The Event” fight between Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey at the Gaylord Hotel in Grapevine, Texas.

According to a report by Ronnie Nathanielsz posted on PhilBoxing.com, Mepranum outhustled the previously undefeated Hernan “Tyson” Marquez, securing a 10-round decision over the Mexican.

Judges saw the fight 99-91, 98-92 and 96-94, all in favor of the Filipino flyweight.

It was an impressive win for Mepranum, who improved to 17-2-1 (3 knockouts).

Marquez, ranked No. 5 by the WBC, No. 6 by the WBA, No. 9 by the WBO and No. 12 by the IBF, dropped to 25-1 (18 KOs).

Junior welterweight Laurente, for his part, secured an 8-round decision over Ghana’s Ben Tackie.
