MANILA, Philippines – The Meralco Chess Club will stage the Battle of Meralco GMs in connection with the celebration of Meralco’s 107th Anniversary and Employee’s Week on Saturday.

The Battle of Meralco GMs will be held at the Basement Canteen of the Lopez Building in Meralco, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
 
The tournament is divided into 2 groups, the seniors for retirees, employees and subsidiaries and juniors for grade school and high school children of MERALCO employees and retirees.

National Master (NM)-killers Jay Dicen, Jonas Santiago, Adrian Esteva are entered in the seniors group.

Some of the junior players are Palarong Pambansa Regional Finalists Pia and Paul Casiano for CLRAA, Paulo Bersamina and Rhal Sol Cruz, Jr. for NCR, and Jam Jerusalem for STCAA.
 
The event will be a Swiss Rapid wherein 10 minutes will be given per player to finish the game. Medals and cash prizes will be given to the Top 3 winners of each group. A cash incentive for each win will also be given. – by Marlon Bernardino
