MANILA, Philippines – The brother of 7-division champ Manny Pacquiao and several other Filipino boxing contenders will figure in overseas bouts in the coming months.

Bobby "The Sniper" Pacquiao is making a comeback since taking a 2-year hiatus from the sport. He will face a still unnamed opponent in the undercard of the "Philippines versus Rest of the World", scheduled on April 9 at the Dubai Tennis Arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Pacquiao, who has a record of 29-15-3, lost a 10-rounder to Robert Frankel during his last fight.

Headlining "Philippines versus Rest of the World" is Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista (27-2, 20 KOs), who will face Thai Saichon Sotornpitak (10-1, 5 KOs) in a 10-round non-title fight.

Unbeaten Milan Melindo (20-0, 5 KOs) will also defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth Intercontinental flyweight title against Colombian Devis Perez (12-1-2, 6 KOs). Melindo won the title by beating American Anthony Villareal by unanimous decision last January.

Also slated in the undercard are young Filipino prospects Jason Pagara (21-1, 10 KOs), who will face Kenyan John Gicharu (13-5-1, 6 KOs), and Larry Canillas (9-1, 8 KOs) who will fight Fred Sayuni (6-3-4, 3 KOs) of Tanzania.

Rubillar gets rematch with S. African

Meanwhile, Rubillar could get his chance to win another world title as promoter Rodney Berman of Golden Gloves Promotions arranged his rematch against International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior flyweight champion Hekkie “The Hexecutioner” Budler of South Africa.

The fight is slated at the Emperor’s Palace near Johannesburg on July 19.

Berman assured that there will only be one South African in the judging panel while the other 2 judges will come from overseas.

Rubillar failed to win the vacant IBF junior flyweight title after losing to Budler by majority decision last February in South Africa. All 3 judges were South African.

Budler is undefeated in 15 fights while Rubillar already won 48 fights against 14 losses. – by Marlon Bernardino
