MANILA, Philippines – The Barako Bull Energy Boosters will be using a new name in the 2010 PBA Fiesta Conference on Sunday.

The team will be known as Barako Energy Coffee “Drink Masters”.

“With the changes we’ve had, we look forward to a highly competitive campaign in the coming PBA tourney,” team owner George Chua said in a report by PBA.ph.

Coach Junel Baculi will now be at the helm, replacing Leo Isaac.

The team also has new recruits in Jerwin Gaco, Rob Wainwright, Al Vergara and Christian Coronel. They will support mainstays Yousif Aljamal, Rob Reyes, Gilbert Lao, Jojo Duncil, Aris Dimaunahan, Leo Najorda, Ogie Menor, Chad Alonzo and Ryan Faundo.

The team will be reinforced by 6-foot-5 Sammy Monroe, who recently played with the Austin Toros in the NBA Developmental League.

“We’re raring to improve on our poor showing in the recent Philippine Cup, determined to make good on the playing court and make an impact for the brand Barako Energy Coffee which we’re introducing to the public,” said Chua.

Chua also thanked Harbour Centre owner Mikee Romero for their sponsorship deal for the duration of the conference.

The team put out their strongest performance in 2001 when they were still known as the Red Bull Barakos. Under coach Yeng Guiao, the team won a championship right on its second year of participation in PBA, ruling the 2001 Commissioner’s Cup.
