Azkals unveil Challenge Cup qualifiers roster

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) on Monday revealed the 23-man roster of the Philippine national football team for the upcoming AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers.

The following players were called up:

5. Jeffrey Christiaens
6. Jason De Jong
7. Neil Etheridge (GK)
8. Robert Gier
9. Chris Greatwich
10. Angel Guirado
11. Juani Guirado
12. Jerry Lucena
13. Carlos de Murga
14. Paul Mulders
15. Roland Muller (GK)
16. Javier Patino
17. OJ Porteria
18. Patrick Reichelt
19. Eduard Sacapano (GK)
20. Stephan Schrock
21. Matthew Uy
22. James Younghusband
23. Phil Younghusband

The AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers will be held in Manila from March 22 to March 26, with the Philippine Azkals taking on Brunei Darussalam (March 22), Cambodia (March 24) and Turkmenistan (March 26).

The top teams, along with the best second-place teams in all groups will advance to the final stage of the competition in Maldives in 2014.

The Azkals’ best finish in the biennial tournament came in 2012, when they placed third behind Turkmenistan and champions North Korea.

The winner of the Challenge Cup will qualify to the AFC Asian Cup.
