ANAHEIM – Michael Christian Martinez is back on the ice, but this time with some members of the community as part of one of his fundraising efforts.

Some had the chance to get lessons and skate with Martinez and his coach, Ted Domingo.

“For me, it’s a stress release. Stress release, because I’m teaching someone that I know and I’m skating with friends, so it’s real fun for me,” Martinez said.

Martinez is continuing to rehabilitate his injuries that forced him to miss out on this month’s Junior World Championships in Bulgaria, but he has been training lightly this week and has picked up the intensity in the past few days.

“I’m still not a hundred percent, but I’m trying my best to bring back my jumps again,” said Martinez.

As Martinez slowly gets back on the ice, the competitive fire is beginning to burn again. He said there’s a chance he might be back in action in a couple of weeks.

Martinez is considering entering the Triglav Competition in Slovenia on April 2.

He said therapy has gone well but he still needs medical clearance from doctors before he can fully practice and enter the competition.

“I will try to get ready for that. I’ll do my best to be in the top five there,” said Martinez. “Until we get the doctor’s certificate that I can go and compete again, but we don’t know when.”

With the competition less than two weeks away, he has been increasing his practices each day, and is hoping to get the medical clearance before his potential departure date at the end of next week.
