Coach: Donaire could finish Rigo in 2 rounds
MANILA, Philippines – Nonito Donaire Jr. is such in great shape three weeks ahead of his title bout against Guillermo Rigondeaux that his trainer thinks he could finish the Cuban in just two rounds.
Despite Donaire’s recent falling out with his nutritionist Victor Conte, coach Robert Garcia said everything is going well at their training camp.
“Nonito is in tremendous shape, [have] tremendous skills, tremendous speed and tremendous power to end it in one or two rounds,” Garcia said in an interview with Radio Rahim.
Donaire will be slugging it out with the Cuban defector on April 13 in an attempt to unify the WBO and WBA super bantamweight crowns.
Garcia said Rigondeaux may be undefeated, but his lack of ring experience will definitely cost him against Donaire.
Rigondeaux is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and the reigning WBA king, but he only has 11 fights as a professional.
“I think it's a good fight, Rigondeaux's a great champion,” said Garcia, “but I don't think he'd be tough.”
Garcia said the fight could go past two rounds with Donaire getting an obvious win. "I have no doubt that Nonito will be very prepared and convincingly win the fight," he said.
