Hatton eyes Marquez, Mayweather after Pacquiao
British boxing superstar Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton said he has his eyes set on clashing against Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
That is, if he will be able to conquer the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter, Manny Pacquiao, in their Las Vegas fight on May 2.
Hatton’s planned multi-million farewell tour was revealed in an article by Steve Lillis on NewsoftheWorld.co.uk, which quoted Hatton saying, “If I beat Pacquiao, I’d like to fight Marquez. Then next summer I’d love an open-air fight at Wembley Stadium against Floyd Mayweather, Jr.”
A Hatton-Marquez fight would reportedly generate more than $28 million (20 million UK Pounds) while a rematch against Mayweather would spawn more than $115 million (80 million UK Pounds).
“I don’t want to be an old man in an armchair with my pipe and slippers still blaming the referee for what happened in the first fight,” Hatton told News of the World.
In 2007, Hatton experienced the first loss in his career after being knocked out by Mayweather in the 10th round.
The referee of the fight earlier deducted a point from Hatton after he appeared to hit Mayweather on the back of his head while he was rested between the ropes.
Meantime, Hatton’s battle plans against Marquez and Mayweather,Jr. will have to wait because “The Hitman” has yet to prove himself against Pacquiao.
Hatton is being trained for the much-awaited fight by Floyd Mayweather, Sr.
