MANILA, Philippines – Priming himself to become a more versatile fighter, Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao recently allotted a good portion of his training in boosting more power for his right fist.

Pacquiao, a power punching southpaw, is hoping that his right hook will help him stand victorious in his welterweight clash against American foe "Sugar" Shane Mosley this coming May.

"Matagal naming dinevelop iyong right hand ko at ngayon... totally developed na siya," he said.

Pacquiao, currently training in Baguio City, will fight Mosley at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Filipino superstar, also the reigning pound-for-pound king as per Ring magazine and Yahoo! Sports, will defend his World Boxing Organization welterweight belt against the American.

Poised for sparring

While in the middle of his training, Pacquiao greeted his two sparring mates who have arrived in the City of Pines.

Americans David Rodela and Shawn Porter expressed excitement to spar with the Fighter of the Decade in an actual ring.

"I think it shall be a great exciting fight," lightweight contender Porter said.

"Manny is really good and I feel bad for myself," welterweight fighter Rodela added.

Pacman's camp hopeful of a victory

While keeping in shape, the camp of Pacquiao remains positive that the 5'6 ½" Filipino will dominate the upcoming match.

This is, the camp said, despite the 5'9" Mosley's height and speed advantages.

"He trained one week so far. He's close," said Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's renowned trainer. "We still have a long way to go."

Nonetheless, for Top Rank chief Bob Arum who recently visited the pugilist while in training, the clash will be one for the books.

"Mosley's skills match up well with Manny and I think that's gonna be an exciting fight," Arum said of the former world champ, who fought but lost to Paquiao's top rival Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2010.

Meanwhile, after his 3-week training in Baguio, Pacquiao will fly to Los Angeles, California for the next phase of his preparations.  – Report from Ada Sibayan, ABS-CBN News
