Samante, Dimson top QC Batang Pinoy Chess
MANILA, Philippines – Louie Samante and Elaine Dimson topped their respective divisions in the 9th annual Quezon City Batang Pinoy Chess Olympics on Sunday.
Samante, who finished with 5.5 points, won the gold in the Boys 18 and below division while Dimson, who notched 6 points, took the gold in the Girls 18 and below.
Joining Samante and Dimson in the podium were Kerby Acoba (U-16 Boys), John Eric Margarito (U-14 Boys), Richard Cabrales (U-12 Boys), James Harris Bajande (U-8 Boys), Luzzel Dacayo (U-16 Girls), Jonalyn Abajon (U-14 Girls) and Princess Jacqueline Bajande (U-10 Girls).
The event was held at the Amoranto Multipurpose Hall in Quezon City.
It was supervised by Bagumbuhay Chess Club President Col. Bobby Fopalan and International Arbiter and National Master (NM) Erwin Carag.
Meanwhile, young chess players can participate in 2 tournaments slated next month.
The 1st G4 Chess Club Age-Group Chess Championship will take place from April 5 to 6 at the G4 Chess Club (behind old Aura College) at 14th St. East Tapinac, Olongapo City.
The 7-round Swiss-system event, open to woodpushers aged 13 and below (Under 7, 9, 11, 13 for boys and girls), will be limited to 80 participants.
Another tournament, the 27th edition of the 1st Saturday Magnolia Non-Master Summer Chess Tournament (1950 Below Club Rapid Rating), will be held on April 10 at the Perez Building, Doña Soledad corner Australia Streets, Better Living Subdivision in Parañaque City.
The top 3 finishers will receive P1,000, P2,000 and P 3,000 and trophies while the winners of the Senior, Kiddie and Lady categories will get P500 each and a gift pack of Magnolia products.
The registration standard fee is P250 and P150 for kiddies.
Tournament format will be played in 7 Rounds Swiss System and the rate of play will be 25 minutes per player to finish the game. Participants will also enjoy the application of the RRCIS-Round by Round Cash Incentive Scheme 10-5. – by Marlon Bernardino
