MANILA, Philippines – Meralco has decided to stick with Brian Butch after the import keyed the Bolts’ 109-98 win against the Air21 Express over the weekend.

Butch had a monster effort against the Express, scoring 40 points and tallying 31 boards, thereby saving himself from being replaced by another import.

Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio told the Philippine Star that their 6-foot-10 reinforcement will suit up against Rain or Shine on Wednesday after helping the Bolts improve to 3-2.

“Brian Butch is playing,” Gregorio said. “Rain or Shine is an upper echelon team, their early struggle is dangerous. They will come out fighting and we must be ready.”

The Meralco management has reportedly tapped Darnell Jackson to replace Butch. The 6-foot-9 Jackson, who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Sacramento Kings in the NBA, could bring in added muscle in the shaded lane. But Butch had another exceptional night for Meralco on Sunday, prolonging his stay.

Meanwhile, Rain or Shine will also be switching imports to save its struggling campaign in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Alexander McLean will be playing one last game for the Elasto Painters before Wayne Chism takes over.

Rain or Shine already has three losses in four games.
