MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Georges “Rush” St-Pierre successfully defended his title via unanimous decision against Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy in UFC 111 on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

“It’s a win, but I’m not really happy with myself,” St-Pierre said in an article on UFC.com. “I made a lot of stupid mistakes.”

St-Pierre, who now has 20 wins and 2 losses, also revealed that he underestimated his opponent.

“I wanted to avoid the fight where my opponent was strongest, and fight where he was at his weakest, but he’s a lot better than I thought he was.”

Hardy, for his part, admitted that St-Pierre was the better fighter.

“I can see why he’s the champion… He’s a strong athlete, very skilled,” said Hardy, who now has 23 wins, 7 defeats with 1 no contest (NC).

UFC 111: St-Pierre vs Hardy was held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The event also featured a heavyweight title clash between former heavyweight champion Frank Mir and Shane Carwin, with the latter claiming the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt.

Carwin knocked out Mir at 3:48 of Round 1 and remained undefeated at 12-0.

Mir, on the other hand, now has 13 wins and 5 losses.
