MANILA, Philippines – One day after a historic WrestleMania 28, fans of the WWE were given another reason to cheer when former wrestler Brock Lesnar made his return to Monday Night RAW after almost eight years.

WWE fans have anticipated Lesnar’s return ever since the wrestler retired from competing in the Ultimate Fighting Championship last December.

During April 2’s Monday Night RAW show in Miami, Lesnar came out and interrupted a long ramble by WWE superstar John Cena.

Cena attempted to shake Lesnar’s hand, but Lesnar responded by delivering his finishing move, the "F-5" on Cena.

It was rumored that Lesnar was going to make his return during WrestleMania, and although it was widely reported that he was in Miami, the show ended without him making an appearance.

His return on RAW was very well-received, with WWE fans chanting “We want Lesnar” during Cena’s speech and giving him a loud ovation when he entered the ring.

Lesnar’s return also got social media buzz. One of his trademark catchphrases “#HereComesThePain” became a trending topic, as well as “F5 to Cena” and “F5.”

Lesnar left the UFC in December after losing to Alistair Overeem at UFC 141. His mixed martial arts career drew mixed reviews: he won the UFC heavyweight title and defended it twice and he became the UFC’s biggest draw.

But Lesnar also suffered from various injuries, including problems with diverticulitis. In his last bout against Overeem, Lesnar took a kick to the liver from the Dutch kickboxer and could not stop Overeem from landing a flurry of punches. He lost via technical knockout.

UFC president Dana White has not made any comment regarding Lesnar’s return to the WWE.

According to a report from wrestling website PWInsider, the WWE signed a one-year deal with Lesnar. Lesnar will make a minimum of two appearances a month and will also make appearances to promote WrestleMania 29.

WWE Monday Night RAW airs on Studio 23 every Friday at 9:30 p.m.
