Edgar accepts 3rd fight vs BJ Penn
Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar has accepted the offer for a third fight against mixed martial arts (MMA) legend BJ Penn.
Edgar will be coaching against Penn at the 19th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” which will culminate with a featherweight fight between the two MMA mentors.
“The whole package made me interested,” Edgar said in USA Today Sports. “If you look at past coaches, they are big names in the UFC, so I think it was the best next step for me. In order to do that, I had to fight BJ again.”
Edgar has already defeated Penn twice. He took the lightweight title from Penn in UFC 112 before defending it in a rematch in UFC 118.
Edgar, however, said Penn is considered a legend in MMA.
Another win against the former lightweight and welterweight champion could give him a shot at the UFC featherweight title.
“He’s a legend and probably one of the best lightweights that has ever fought in MMA. A win over him, if I can make it convincing, does a lot to help me in the title picture,” said Edgar.
