KO is just a bonus, says Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao maintained that he won’t be going into the Timothy Bradley fight looking for a knockout.

But if it the opportunity presents itself, he'll take it, he said, adding that his primary goal is to swarm the WBO welterweight titlist with punches until the champion gives in.

“My focus is to throw more punches and to be more aggressive. If the knockout comes, it comes. Knockouts are a bonus from working hard,” he said in RingTV following his open training.

Although he wanted to vindicate himself after the controversial verdict of the first bout, Pacquiao said he wouldn’t allow his emotions to take over his game plan.

The Filipino superstar dominated Bradley in the June 2012 face off but the American fighter got the last laugh when the judges awarded him a split decision.

“We feel we got robbed in the last fight and we want to make it right, but I’m not thinking about the knockout,” Pacquiao said.

Boxing coach Freddie Roach noted that Bradley isn’t naturally a hit-and-run fighter, saying the undefeated American has the tendency to brawl when put in a difficult situation.

“He’s not a runner,” Roach said. “Manny can cut the ring off and get him against the ropes, and one thing about Bradley is that he will punch back if he gets hit. It’s in his nature. He loves to exchange and when he does, he swings a little wild. I think Manny can catch him during one of these exchanges.”
