Arum wants Viloria on more Asia fight cards
MANILA, Philippines – Top Rank boss Bob Arum is planning to put world flyweight champion Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria on more fight cards in Asia.
Viloria will headline the first major boxing event in Macau, when he defends his WBO and WBA flyweight championships against Mexican challenger Juan Estrada this weekend.
In an interview with Ronnie Nathanielsz of PhilBoxing, Arum revealed that he wants to feature Viloria “very often on these Asian (fight) cards.”
Viloria, who will be defending his WBO title for the fourth time, is also seeking his seventh consecutive victory.
According to Arum, Viloria may be on a collision course with Chinese Olympic champion Zou Shiming, who will make his professional debut on the same fight card in Macau this Saturday.
“Obviously, a Viloria-Zou Shiming fight is something that as a promoter is always at the back of our minds,” Arum said.
“If (Viloria) retains his championship, and as Zou Shiming progresses, sometime next year Brian will defend his title against Zou, and it will be by far the biggest payday in Viloria’s career,” he said.
Although most of his fights have been held in the United States, Viloria has also fought in Mexico as well as in the Philippines, most recently at the Ynares Sports Arena where he knocked out Omar Niño Romoero last May 2012.
