MANILA, Philippines – Cuban fighter Guillermo Rigondeaux vows to prove that he is the best in the super bantamweight division when he takes on fellow champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire on April 13 in New York.

It will be a title unification fight with Rigondeaux holding the WBA belt, while Donaire has the WBO and The RING titles.

“This fight is very important for me,” Rigondeaux said in an interview on Boxing Scene. “When I win, that will show that I am the best 122-pound fighter in the world.”

Rigondeaux, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and one of the most celebrated amateur boxers in the sport, said the fight against Donaire is the most important of his career.

“We are training very hard. We can’t wait for fight night,” Rigondeaux said. “This is the biggest fight of my career, and we will show that on April 13th.”

As for Donaire’s supposed size advantage against him, the Cuban merely shrugged it off.

“His size won’t be a problem,” Rigondeaux said. “I have fought guys a lot taller than him, like Robert Marroquin. ...He was a lot taller than Donaire. His size won’t be a problem at all.”

It will only be Rigondeaux’s 12th professional fight.
