Macapagal reclaims 3-point crown
MANILA, Philippines – San Mig Coffee's Mark Barroca became the new 2014 PBA All-Star Obstacle Challenge king after besting eight other competitors at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena on Friday.
Barroca had the fastest time of 31.4 seconds in the eliminations and finished the final round with 29.4 seconds despite missing the opening layup.
His foiled the five-peat bid of Air21’s Jonas Villanueva, who clocked in at 36.8 seconds. Alaska’s JV Casio finished the obstacle course in 54.5 seconds.
“Isip ko na lang yung pinagana ko. Pinag-isipan ko kagabi pa na masaya pag nanalo ako,” said Barroca in the PBA website.
“Alam ko na yung gagawin ko kasi na-experience ko na itong competition na to last year. Pinagtrabahuhan ko lang talaga yung focus at execution.”
The 2014 Philippine Cup Finals MVP pocketed P30,000 for his efforts.
Meanwhile, GlobalPort’s Mark Macapagal regained the 2014 PBA All-Star 3-Point Shootout title from defending champion Christ Tiu.
Macapagal had 24 points in the final round, outshooting Tiu (22 points) and JV Casio (20 points).
It was Macapagal’s fourth three-point shootout title. He won the crown in 2010 and defended it in 2011 and 2012. Tiu, however, broke the run in 2013.
“Last year, galing akong bakasyon so di ako prepared, di tulad ngayon na nakakapag-practice ako at kuha ko yung rhythm ko,” he said. “Buti na lang maganda yung umpisa ko kaya nakasama ako dun sa final na tatlo.”
Macapagal won the P30,000 prize that went with the title.
