LOS ANGELES, California – “Desert Storm” Timothy Bradley flexed his muscle for the media on Thursday, showing that he's physically and emotionally ready for the April 12 rematch against Manny Pacquiao, a fight he considers career defining.
“I don't care about any other fight but this fight. I don't care if I never lace up the gloves again. This is the only fight I care about, winning this fight right here. I don't ever have to fight again after this fight. After I win this fight I don't have to fight again if I want to. If you know what I mean,” said Bradley.
As serious as he has been throughout camp, the undefeated American joked about some of his pre-fight rituals on showering and not wearing socks.
“Making weight, I feel like I'm a couple pounds away. If I'm in the shower, okay, water is gonna go into my system and I have to drop and suffer and have to lose weight. That's the reason I don't do it [shower]. And then the 'no socks,' that's what I get for reading Mike Tyson books and things about Mike Tyson because Mike Tyson didn't wear socks and I tried it during training camp getting ready for the fight and I decided to do it in the fight,” he said.
Trainer Joel Diaz believes Bradley has become more confident since his first fight with Pacquiao in 2012.
He went on to beat Ruslan Providnikov in a slugfest despite a concussion in March of 2013, then outclassed Juan Manuel Marquez last October.
“He matured and Manny Pacquiao comes back and gets knocked out against Marquez… We cannot go into a fight leaving doubt in anyone's mind. Timothy is going to fight the way I tell him to fight,” said Diaz.
Bradley's camp says not only will he be a more experienced fighter on fight night, but he will be in even better shape than their previous match-up where Bradley hurt both feet in the fourth round.
Bradley may change up his rituals. Already at fighting weight, Bradley may shower on fight week, and, after hurting his feet, he's definitely going to wear socks.
He may not be a knockout artist but the undefeated Bradley has proven that he has endurance by fighting two of his last three fights injured.
Now, it's Bradley's mission to prove not only can he survive towards a victory, but also dominate.
