NEW YORK – San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili will miss the remainder of the NBA season, including the playoffs, with a stress fracture in his right ankle, the team said on Monday.

Ginobili felt a stiffness in his lower right leg during the Spurs game at Cleveland on Sunday and he returned to San Antonio following the game, the playoff-bound Spurs said on their website (www.nba.com/spurs).

Examinations of the ankle showed the fracture in his right distal fibula and increased marrow edema, the Spurs said. Ginobili, a sixth-year veteran from Argentina, earlier had missed 19 games with a stress reaction in the fibula before returning March 25 and playing in six games. He also was out for 12 games at the beginning of the season following surgery on his left ankle.

The team's third-leading scorer, Ginobili was averaging 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists this season.
