Subba warns Toquero: Don't be misled by my good looks
MANILA, Philippines – Malaysian fighter Gianni Subba warned Filipino Muay Thai specialist Eugene Toquero not to underestimate him.
The 22-year-old Subba vowed to bring to the cage competitiveness and tenacity that made him undefeated so far in his last 3 professional fights under the ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) banner.
“The competitiveness of the sport really got me into MMA. Also watching my fellow Malaysian peers compete in great organizations like ONE FC made me really want to challenge myself,” said Subba, who has boyish good looks.
He will be facing Toquero, a tough and more experienced fighter who has also a string of victories before being outpointed last December by fellow Filipino Geje Eustaquio.
The Hawaii-born Malaysian is confident he will defeat Tuquero on May 2 at "ONE FC: Rise of Heroes," at the MOA Arena.
“I believe that I have more tools than Toquero and I will be able to mix things up better,” Subba said.
Meanwhile, former Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren will make his ONE FC debut against Bakhtiyar Abbasov on May 30 in Singapore.
Askren is a decorated American wrestler, finishing his amateur wrestling career at the University of Missouri with a record of 153-8. He wants to be ONE FC welterweight champion one day.
But first he will have to get past Abbasov, who is one of the top fighters to come out of Europe.
