Arum: Pacquiao to fight in September if he loses in poll
MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao will likely fight in September if he loses in the elections on May 10, according to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum.
Arum said in an interview with BoxingTalks.com’s G. Leon that Pacquiao is expected to resume training for a fight sometime in September if he loses against Roy Chiongbian for the lone congressional seat of Sarangani province.
But if the 7-division champ and reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight king is triumphant in his 2nd attempt to become a member of Congress, Arum said the fight will be moved later this year.
“If he wins the election, he[’ll] probably fight in November, and if he loses the election, he fights in September,” said Arum.
In Pacquiao’s first attempt at politics in 2007, he lost to South Cotabato Rep. Darlene Antonino-Custodio.
This time around, he's up against the politically-influential Chiongbians of Sarangani, the home province of his wife, Jinkee.
Although observers are unsure about Pacquiao’s political pursuit, Arum said he is certain about one thing: “Manny Pacquiao is definitely fighting again this year."
Berto lines up for Pacquiao
Should Pacquiao decide to fight either in September or November, he will have to choose among several prospective opponents.
Those already mentioned are Floyd Mayweather Jr., Antonio Margarito, Juan Manuel Marquez and Erik Morales.
The latest addition is World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Andre Berto, who successfully defended his title on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) against Puerto Rican Carlos Quintana.
“It would be a great showdown because he (Pacquiao) has never had to deal with my type of speed and power combined,” Berto said in an Examiner.com article by Vivek Wallace.
“Some of his opponents had one or the other, but you could make an argument that I'd be the first with that kind of mix,” the Haitian-American added.

Pacman is not for Congress
I do have relatives and friends in Sarangani Province. According to them, they admire and adore Pacquiao as a boxing champ. But when it comes to politics, it is a different story. This sentiment goes too with the electorate of Sarangani. Pacquiao will suffer his second loss in the political ring this May 10 2010 elections. Poor Pacquiao you were just lured by crap politicians. They are just using you Pacman to further their political ambitions. Losing for the second time in his congressional bid will be a bitter pill for Pacquiao to swallow. The Filipinos love you Manny Pacquiao for the triumph and glory that you gave to the Philippines. But it does not mean that the people in Sarangani will vote for you in return this coming May 10. You can help your constituents in some other way and not necessarily by joining the dirty world of Philippine politics. Anyway, good luck to you, Pacman.
Pacquiao Para Sa Boksing Hindi Para Sa Kongreso
To the people of Sarangani, kayo ang maghusga sa darating na eleksyon kung karapatdapat nga bang maging-congressman nyo si Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao is for boxing and not for congress and politics.
To the people of Sarangani, don't vote for Pacquiao.
NO VOTE TO PACMAN NO TO VILLAROYO!!

Ipaabot
Kasi kung dito magdakdak, your all barking on the wrong tree.
I'm tired of Pacquiao
I'm a Pinoy from Guam. I'm a solid fan of Pacquiao before and never missed his fights, but after endorsing one of the Philippines 2nd or maybe the greatest theft Moneylinlang Villar. I don't believe in him anymore and for sure he will loss against Chongbian. I will be happy to se him loss on his next fight, and I will pray for it. He think that he can do also everything, Pacquiao your only good in boxing and don't think that you can buy everything with your money. I will be happy to see you and Villar loss in the election. Anybody but not Villar.
Arum on Pacquiao...
