Nonito Donaire, Jr. is all set to defend his International Boxing Federation flyweight title against Challenger Raul “Cobra” Martinez on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Donaire toiled through his final sessions until Good Friday and wrapped up his sparring sessions with partners Marvin Tampus and Junel Alivio.

“I feel good right now,” said the “Filipino Flash” in a video interview by SportsNews.ph. He added that his sessions proved that he can slug it out for the full 12-rounds.

“Na-confirm ko na kayang-kaya ko kahit ilang round,” said Donaire (20-1, 13 KO’s). He also assured his fans that he has no problem making the 112-pound limit.

Sunday's bout will be Donaire’s third title defense since winning the crown from Vic Darchinyan nearly two years ago.

‘Rivalry with Viloria’

Also boxing under the same card is Brian “Hawaiian Punch” Viloria, who is viewed by many as Donaire’s former rival. Viloria (24-2, 14 KO’s) is challenging IBF light flyweight champion Ulises Solis of Mexico.

Donaire denied that there is rivalry between him and Viloria. “It's all about talk. It’s all because we fought in the amateurs before. But other than that, it was just something that a fighter gets to,” said Donaire.

Donaire said he plans to hang out a bit with Viloria by inviting him to dinner.

“I know how Solis fought my brother… All I can do is give him advice on how to take Solis down when we talk at dinner. One thing is that natulungan ko siya na makuha ang style ni Solis even though from just my words,” he said.

“I wish him the best… I hope he gets this one as much as I have to get over my opponent,” he added.

Martinez, Solis arrive in RP

Meanwhile, Donaire challenger Martinez and IBF light flyweight king Solis arrived Monday morning from Los Angeles and promptly worked out at the “Punch Out” gym in Makati City.

The 27-year-old Martinez from San Antonio, Texas is undefeated with a record of 24-0 including 14 knockouts.

Martinez believes that the only sure way for him to win the title is by knocking out Donaire or beating him convincingly.

The challenger voiced his fear of a hometown decision as he was quoted by boxing writer Nick Giongco as saying “when you fight in the champion’s territory its going to be very hard to win the title on points.”

Solis, for his part, said he cares less about fighting outside his territory.

“Great champions don’t care where they fight. They go and win under all kinds of circumstances and if you believe in yourself and in your talent and don’t hide in your home country and make meaningless defenses that amount to nothing,” said Solis (28-1-2, 20 KO’s).

Solis added: “I have always loved challenges and this fight against Viloria in the Philippines is a big challenge for me, but I know that I’m more than ready for this. I not only expect to win this fight but also expect to give the fans a great fight.” With a report from Ronnie Nathanilelsz, Insidesports.ph
