Overtime win gives Spurs NBA division title
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Michael Finley forced overtime with a 3-pointer at the regulation buzzer and Tim Duncan dominated the extra session to lead San Antonio past New Orleans 105-98 Wednesday and into a division title.
The Spurs' victory combined with a loss by Houston at Dallas gave San Antonio the Southwest division crown and the third seeding in the Western Conference playoffs, booking them a first-round matchup against Dallas.
New Orleans, which had 34 points from David West in a losing cause, slid to seventh in the West and a first-round meeting with Denver while Houston faces Portland and the Los Angeles Lakers meet Utah.
Finley took advantage of missed free throws and equalized to conclude the fourth quarter, setting up Duncan's masterful finish, scoring six points with six rebounds plus two assists and a blocked shot in overtime.
French guard Tony Parker led the Spurs with 29 points while Duncan finished with 20 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Spurs.
Chris Paul scored 26 points and passed out 14 assists for the Hornets.
