The best Filipino triathletes are set to shoot for top honors Sunday in the second leg of SPEEDO Aquathlon 2009 Series in Ayala Alabang Village, Muntilupa City.

According to the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP), the aquathlon race will take place at the Narra Park of Ayala Alabang Village.

Coach Rick Reyes, the executive director of TRAP, told abs-cbnNEWS.com that around 70 people have already registered for the event. He expects the total number of triathlete participants to reach more than 100 by the time the event starts.

Participants in the aquathlon race comprise adults as well as children.

Age group races are lined up to ensure that the "competition will be balanced," as stated in a TRAP statement posted on SportsNews.ph.

“We have seen the growth of triathlon in the country in recent years and our SuperTriKids series has certainly contributed to this expansion particularly for kids, together with the SPEEDO Aquathlon race, we have also included a beginners' race for adults who may want to try the sport for the first time,” said TRAP president Tom Carrasco Jr.

SuperTriKids is TRAP’s grassroots developmental program now running on its fourth year.

Aside from having age group races in aquathlon and triathlon, the event also serves as the first qualifying leg for participants aged 10 to 13 for the Yokohama Triathlon for Kids event on August that will take place in Japan.
