MANILA, Philippines – Interim Alaska coach Luigi Trillo said he is looking forward to mentor the Aces for the rest of the PBA season.

“I’m excited, but at the same time, I know it entails a lot of dedication because it demands commitment,” Luigi, son of Alaska team manager and Board Governor Joaqui Trillo, told PBA.ph.

“I’m excited to handle guys like LA Tenorio, Sonny Thoss, Cyrus Baguio and Tony de la Cruz.”

Luigi, who replaced outgoing coach Joel Banal, played for the De La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP before coaching Cebuana Lhuillier in the PBL and the PBA D-League.

He also mentored the Adamson University Falcons in the UAAP.

The elder Trillo said Luigi was chosen based on his coaching experience.

“It was Fred Uytengsu who appointed Luigi and he was chosen based on his experience as coach in the PBL, D-League and UAAP, among others,” said Trillo.

Banal, who long-time coach Tim Cone, resigned as head coach after two conferences with Alaska.

The Aces only came up with three wins in the Philippine Cup and six victories in the Commissioner’s Cup under his watch.

“The goal of the Alaska franchise is to be in the semis of every conference and we did not meet that goal in the past two conferences, so I wanted to give management the chance to look at options,” Banal said in a statement.
