Mijares keeps eye on Donaire
MANILA, Philippines – Mexican boxer Cristian Mijares is keeping his eye on four-division champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. despite his upcoming fight this Saturday.
Mijares, a former world champion, is set to take on Colombian Eddy Julio for the WBC's International silver title at super bantamweight.
“I'm very motivated and had excellent training and on Saturday you will see me highly motivated and ready to reclaim my position at the top of the boxing world," Mijares said in Boxing Scene.
He said that once he disposes Julio, he’ll immediately ask for a fight against Donaire.
"Right now I'm focused on succeeding against the Colombian and if we come out fine - then we'll focus on the fight with Donaire, who I'm sure I'll can beat," Mijares said.
Aside from Mijares, Top Rank promotions is also considering South Africa’s IBF champion Jeffrey “Mongoose” Mathebula as a possible opponent for Donaire.
Donaire, now the WBO super bantamweight champion, will defend his title on July 21 at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas.
