'JuanMa' says he'll knock out PeƱalosa
Puerto Rican boxer Juan Manuel Lopez says he is confident that he will knock out Filipino boxer Gerry Peñalosa when they meet on April 25.
“I have no doubts that I will become the first fighter to stop Gerry Peñalosa, although I always prepare to go 12 rounds,” Lopez said in a FightFan.com report.
Peñalosa and Lopez are slated to meet in the ring on April 25 in Puerto Rico, the home country of Lopez. The WBO super bantamweight title of Lopez will be at stake.
Lopez, meantime, countered the statements of Freddie Roach, Peñalosa’s trainer, who said that he spotted flaws in Lopez’s fighting style.
“I don’t know what he saw. They say that I got hit a lot in the Ponce De Leon fight but I don’t know what they are talking about because the fight only lasted two minutes,” he said.
He also denied that he was becoming overconfident, only adding that Peñalosa has a lot of flaws in his fighting style.
“I don’t want the people to get the wrong impression and think I am overconfident. It is just that Peñalosa always comes forward and he gets hit by a lot of left crosses and right hooks,” noted Lopez.
“Many people say I am too confident but if I don’t trust myself then who will? I have done a very good job training and I know what I have to do in the ring,” he said.
“I will do him much harm,” assured the Puerto Rican.
