Mayweather, Sr. wants 'stop down' from Hatton
Floyd Mayweather, Sr. said that he feels good about Ricky Hatton’s chances against Manny Pacquiao when they exchange blows at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 2 in Las Vegas (May 3 in Manila).
“He could win this fight without me. I feel that good about it,” Mayweather told Ed Graney of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
“Ricky is going to beat his ass. I'm not looking for a beat down. I'm looking for a stop down,” he added.
Although he admitted that “Manny has a good left jab,” he said that “when I see the way he throws punches, I see an amateur. When you beat De La Hoya with that, it means De La Hoya quit, forget, end of story.”
Mayweather also noted that “Ricky is still learning.”
“Nobody is going to erase everything from before in one day or two fights. But he's coming along,” he shared.
Mayweather stepped in as Hatton’s trainer in 2008 after Ricky parted ways with long-time mentor Billy Graham. Hatton lost to Mayweather’s son, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in 2007.
“I needed to get beat by Floyd Jr. to know what I had to do. “If I had kept getting away with it, getting away with it, getting away with it, I would have stayed with my friend,” said Hatton.
The partnership of Hatton and Floyd Sr. proved to be successful because Hatton defeated Paulie Malignaggi in November 2008.
Possible rematch
Meanwhile, even before a victor emerges from the “Battle of the East and West,” a rematch is already possible—in a video game.
EA Sports announced that more than 45 fighters, including Pacquiao and Hatton, are included in Fight Night Round 4.
An article on Examiner.com noted that the Philippines is one of the possible choices of venues in the video game.
Other locations are Chicago, Las Vegas, London, Mexico and New York.
