Pacquiao-Hatton fight 'to break PPV records’—Arum
The much-anticipated boxing bout between Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton and Manny “The Pacman” Pacquiao on May 2 (May 3 in Manila) at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas is officially sold out.
“We're extremely pleased with the way fans have reacted to this event and I'm really not surprised that this fight is sold out,” said Oscar de la Hoya in a PhilBoxing.com report.
De la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions along with Top Rank Promotions are at the helm of promoting the “Battle of East and West.”
“Given that the live gate for this event is sold out, coupled with the sellout of tonight's San Francisco Giants baseball game where Manny is the guest of honor, indicates to me that ‘The Battle of East and West’ is on track to break all existing pay-per-view records," said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum.
Reuters reported that organizers are expecting a capacity crowd of about 16,000 to show up.
According to MGMGrand.com, the event’s ticket prices are $150 (plus a $5 handling fee), $300 (plus a $15 handling fee), $500, $750, and $1,000 (plus a $30 handling fee).
While the event’s tickets are already sold out, PhilBoxing.com reported that fans can still purchase "closed circuit tickets" to the much-awaited boxing match.
“You've got two of the best fighters in the world in Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao, as well as two of the most exciting fighters, facing each other in their primes,” noted added de la Hoya, who recently retired from boxing.
“This is going to be a fight to remember,” declared the Golden Boy.
The 12-round fight for the IBO and Ring Magazine World Junior Welterweight titles is also promoted in association with Manny’s MP Promotions and Ricky’s Hatton Promotions.
