MANILA, Philippines – ALA Promotions boss Tony Aldeguer wants Filipino fighter Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista to hang up his gloves after the featherweight boxer's loss to unheralded Mexican Jose “Negro” Ramirez last Saturday.

Ramirez defeated Bautista via split decision in the main event of Pinoy Pride in Davao City last weekend, claiming the Filipino’s featherweight title along with the victory.

“He’s going to retire,” Aldeguer told PhilBoxing writer Dong Secuya. “What’s the point of him continuing to fight if he has nowhere to go?”

If Bautista follows his promoter’s advise, he will step away from the sport with a record of 34 wins and three losses, with 25 wins coming by knockout.

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said Bautista may be losing interest in the sport.

“He’s now married and has a child, and he’s financially well off. He spends more time right now managing his business in Bohol,” the younger Aldeguer told Secuya. “Maybe his mind is no longer on boxing.”

“But really, he has limited abilities, so I think it’s time for him to hang up his gloves,” he added.

In a separate interview with Ronnie Nathanielsz, Michael Aldeguer said Bautista is “one of the most entertaining and charismatic fighters” in the Philippines.

“(He) gave his all and never had a dull fight. He may not be the best and has his limitations, but he is among the most entertaining fighters ever,” he said.
