MANILA, Philippines – Talk N Text's versatile forward Ranidel De Ocampo has been named the PBA's Player of the Week for the period of April 16 to 22 after a series of clutch performances that helped the Tropang Texters make thier fifth straight Finals appearance.
De Ocampo helped the Texters win the last two games in their best-of-five semi-finals match-up against the Barako Bull, and the Talk N Text won the series 3-2 to advance to the Finals.
In Games 4 and 5, De Ocampo normed 20.5 points and 7 rebounds, making up for his sub-par performances in the first three games.
"He had a very inconsistent series, terrible in Games 1 and 3," Talk N Text coach Chot Reyes told PBA.ph. "But he hit the dagger in Game 5, that's why he's our closer."
In the do-or-die Game 5, De Ocampo scored 18 points and completed a four-point play down the stretch that helped the Texters clinch a 101-90 victory.
He was also brilliant in Game 4, scoring 23 points to lead all-scorers on a highly-efficient 7-of-9 shooting clip as the Texters routed Barako 108-90.
Talk N Text lost to the B-Meg Llamados in Game 1 of their best-of-seven Commissioner's Cup Finals, in a game wherein De Ocampo scored only five points. He and the Texters will try to bounce back on Wednesday's Game 2.
