Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista
MANILA, Philippines – ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer has high hopes for Filipino boxer Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista as he makes his comeback at a Pinoy Pride event on May 10 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Bautista is coming out of a brief retirement to fight Mexican Sergio Villanueva in a fight card that also features Milan Melindo.
Aldeguer told PhilBoxing that “Boom Boom” is motivated to put on a good performance.
"(Bautista) wants to come back and prove everybody wrong," said Aldeguer. "(He) has been working on his flexibility, agility, and I think he has improved a lot."
“Hopefully, he won’t throw it out of the window come fight time,” he added.
Bautista announced his retirement last year after losing to Jose Ramirez via split decision in April, but realized that he could not stay away from the sport and decided to attempt a comeback.
“We’ve never seen Boom Boom train as hard and stay as focused for this fight,” Aldeguer said of the 27-year-old fighter. “He has never matured this way.”
Bautista’s opponent, Villanueva, has compiled a record of 26 wins to go along with three losses and two draws at age 22.
Meanwhile, “Boom Boom” is trying to register his 35th professional win.
