Bustamante, Gallego and Gomez post wins in Villar Cup
Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Ramil Gallego and Roberto Gomez defeated their respective opponents in the second round of The Manny Villar Cup - Isabela Leg Thursday at the La Salette High School Gymnasium in Santiago City in Isabela province.
A report posted on AZBillirds.com said Bustamante posted his second win in the tournament by quashing former national champion Lee Van Corteza, 9-1. The victory was a follow up for “Django” who beat Emil Martinez, 9-4, in the first round.
Gallego beat Richard Pornelosa, 9-2, for his second straight win after a 9-4 victory over local bet Abib Cullanan in the opening round of the three-day tournament.
World Pool Championship 2007 runner-up Gomez defeated Bugsy Promotions stable mate Michael Feliciano, 9-6. He earlier won his first round match against local qualifier Alvin Alcantara, 9-7.
Unheralded Ruben Cuna defeated Jomar de Ocampo, 9-6, joining Bustamante, Gallego and Gomez in the quarterfinals.
Billiard legend Efren “Bata” Reyes, Ronnie Alcano, Gandy Valle, Warren Kiamco, Elmer Haya, Carlo Biado, Rene Mar David and Allan Bravo were still in contention for the quarterfinals as they were playing their second round matches as of posting time.
