Pinoy boxer impresses Arum, may get title shot
MANILA – Gritty Filipino boxer Michael Farenas put up an impressive showing during his super featherweight bout against Mexico’s Gerardo “El Torito” Zayas over the weekend.
Farenas dropped his opponent three times en route to a first round technical knockout (TKO) win, catching Bob Arum’s attention in the process.
According to Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanieslz, Arum said he thinks Farenas will move forward in his career.
Farenas’ handler, former boxing champion Gerry Penalosa, believes his ward may get a shot at a world title soon.
He said he wants Farenas to continue training the US as they wait for his fighter’s biggest break.
“He can have a big fight anytime so he needs to continue training at the Wild Card,” Penalosa said in Rene Bonsubre’s Philboxing report.
