Gomez first two-time champ of Villar Cup

Roberto Gomez outlasted Warren Kiamco, 11-9, in the finals of the Manny Villar Cup Isabela before a huge crowd at the La Salette High School Gymnasium in Santiago City.

The victory gave Gomez, the 2008 Davao Leg winner, the distinction of being the first two-time champion of The Manny Villar Cup.

“Here in the Villar Cup, my string of runner-up finishes finally ended. Not only that, I am now the first double champion which makes me very, very happy," said the 30-year-Gomez in a report posted on AZBilliards.com.

Gomez, who finished second in the 2007 World Pool Championship, pocketed the P300,000 top prize and took home the Villar Cup trophy.

He opened his campaign with a 9-7 win over Alvin Alcantara, followed by successive victories over Michael Feliciano (9-6) and Ruben Cuna (9-5).

In the semifinals, Gomez beat Ramil Gallego, 10-6, to arrange a finals date with Kiamko.

Kiamco, made it to the finals by defeating Efren “Bata” Reyes in the semis, 10-4.
