TNT, B-Meg players sanctioned after Game 4 melee
MANILA, Philippines – Talk 'N Text guard Pamboy Raymundo and B-Meg’s Joe Devance and Josh Urbiztondo have been sanctioned by the PBA after participating in a scuffle in the closing minutes of Game 4 of the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals last week.
According to PBA.ph, Raymundo was fined P40,000 and suspended for tonight's Game 5, while Devance and Urbiztondo were fined P20,000 and P2,400, respectively.
During the final minutes of Talk 'N Text's 100-85 win in Game 4 last week, Raymundo planted an elbow on Urbiztondo while fighting off a pick.
Devance retaliated by flicking the ball at Raymundo's face, and Raymundo responded by hitting Devance on the nape.
Raymundo was assessed two "flagrant foul 1s" during the game, but PBA Commissioner Chito Salud has upgraded his infraction to a "flagrant foul 2."
Salud upheld the "flagrant foul 2" and technical foul assessed on Devance and Urbiztondo.
Both Devance and Raymundo were ejected from the game.
"It's unfortunate that that thing happened when the outcome has been decided," TNT head coach Chot Reyes said after the game. "But it's the finals. Emotions are high and everyone is on the edge."
"It's dependent on which team is able to stay focused and play above and beyond the physicality, the crowd, officiating and so forth and so on," Reyes added.
The best-of-seven finals series will resume tonight at the Araneta Coliseum for Game 5, with both teams looking to take the series lead.
