MANILA, Philippines – Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao apologized for missing the opening ceremony of the 2014 Palarong Pambansa in Laguna on Monday.

Pacquiao told Eddie Alinea of PhilBoxing that he could not make it to Monday’s opening ceremony as his infant son, Israel, is still in an incubator.

“Humihingi ako ng paumanhin kay (Laguna) Gov. E.R.

The 57th edition of the Palarong Pambansa opened on Monday morning at the new Laguna Sports Complex, which saw a parade of over 11,000 athletes.

Even with Pacquiao absent, the opening of the Palarong Pambansa was still a star-studded affair as athletes such as basketball players Jeron and Jeric Teng, figure skater Michael Martinez and swimmer Enchong Dee all took part in the torch relay.
