MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-Swiss racer Marlon Stockinger hopes for a podium finish when he competes in the Formula Renault 3.5 Monaco on May 25 as he continues to work towards his dream of making it to Formula One.

Stockinger, who drives for Lotus, made the podium for the first time this season, in the second race in Monza, finishing after Carlos Sainz.

"It's been a great start to my season so far," he said. "It was a race that went really well for us. I was happy to start on the front row and finally get the podium, and for sure, hopefully soon enough, we'll be fighting for some race wins."

Stockinger is hoping that his next podium will come on May 25 at the Monaco circuit, which he said is his favorite track.

"I have a very good experience by now there," said Stockinger on Mornings @ ANC on Wednesday. "I raced there the first time in 2012, and I was really lucky because I managed to win that race in Monaco."

Then competing for Status Grand Prix, Stockinger won in Monaco in the 2012 GP3 series, where he also set his fastest lap.

"This will be my second year in the world series, and hopefully, I’ll also finish on the podium again," he said.

Stockinger explained that Monaco is his favorite track not only because he won his first ever race there.

"It's simply one of the real race tracks that have been unchanged since its birth," he explained. "It brings a lot of history."

"A lot of the parts have been updated to make it safer for the drivers and for the fans, but literally, if you compare to when (Ayrton) Senna or (Alain) Prost were racing there, it's almost unchanged," he added.

"It's really cool to lack back at those, seeing them winning, and then being able to say that I did the same and I’m also racing in this track as well."

Stockinger is set to leave the country next week to continue his preparation for the race.

"I just have to use my experience, and of course, I have been training really hard," he said. "It should be a good weekend for the team in Monaco."
