MANILA, Philippines -- The University of Santo Tomas (UST) will host the 2014 National Korfball Seminar-Workshop and IKF Level 1 Coaching Certification for Sports Leaders of Universities and Schools in the Philippines.

The event, which was organized in cooperation with the International Korfball Federation (IKF), aims to promote korfball as an alternative sports activity in private and public academic institutions.

Korfball is a mixed-gender or all-female ball sport, with similarities to netball and basketball.

The objective is to throw a ball through a bottomless basket that is mounted on a 3.5 meter-high pole.

UST is the only academic institution that offers korfball as a service physical education course in the country.

The seminar-workshop is scheduled to take place on May 15 to 17 at the Quadricentennial Pavilion, UST in España, Manila.

The event will also mark the historical launch of UST as 61st member of IKF and the oath taking of the Philippine Korfball Federation (PKF) officers will also be held in the three-day affair.

Hong Kong China Korfball Association (HKCKA) Chairman Mr. Warman Cheng, IKF Level IV Coach and HKCKA Referee Convenor and IKF referee Mr. Ivan Lee Wing Hung will lecture in the three-day affair, while Hong Kong team members Mr. Ham Kwok Kuen, Mr. Lam Chun Man, Ms. Cheong Chau Yee, and Ms. Yau Tim Tim will serve as demonstrators.

The conference is open to administrators, physical education teachers, sports leaders (coaches and managers), and BPE and MAPEH students.

Onsite registration fee is P3,500 for professionals and P2,500 for undergraduate students. It includes seminar-workshop kit, three-day lunch meals, and cultural night dinner.
