Ateneo enters Fr. Martin Cup quarters
Knights post 4th win
MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Blue Eagles are in the quarterfinals while the Letran Knights stormed to their fourth consecutive win in the 18th Fr. Martin Summer Cup Basketball Tournament.
Niko Salva and Tonino Gonzaga showed the way for the United States-bound Blue Eagles, who trounced the Our Lady of Fatima University Phoenix, 72-52, last Wednesday at the Dom Placid gymnasium of the San Beda College-Manila campus in Mendiola.
Salva and Gonzaga had 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the Blue Eagles, who soared to their fifth consecutive triumph in Group A.
The Blue Eagles, who are flying to the United States this Sunday for their pre-season training, bagged the first ticket to the quarterfinals.
The Letran Knights got 11 points apiece from Mark Cruz, Kevin Racal and McJour Luib, as they breezed past the Informatics Icons, 70-58, last Thursday at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila.
In the juniors, the Far Eastern University (FEU) Baby Tamaraws outplayed the University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) Junior Maroons, 66-41, to pick up their third straight victory.
The Chiang Kai Shek Dragons prevailed over the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Light Bombers, 63-59, for their first win, while the University of Perpetual Help Junior Altas won over St. Stephen, 70-50.
